Guests who visit us in the cooler months may be surprised to find the Loft toasty warm with no oil furnace and no electric baseboard in sight.
This is because that house is heated by a highly efficient – and silent – Kachelofen, burning wood from our own land, while the Blue Cottage is heated by a propane fireplace.
Because the Kachelofens burn wood at a very high temperature, they produce very low emissions while giving off a wonderfully gentle, constant heat.
The kitchens in both houses are equipped with propane gas stoves. These energy-efficient appliances provide a warm meal even in case of a power outage.
