Fire
Guests who visit us in the cooler months may be surprised to find the cottages toasty warm with no oil furnaces and no electric baseboard in sight. This is because two of the cottages (the Loft and the Yellow Cottage) are heated by highly efficient - and silent - Kachelofens, burning wood from our own land, while the Blue Cottage is heated by a propane fireplace. Because the Kachelofens burn wood at a very high temperature, they produce very low emissions while giving off a wonderfully gentle, constant heat. The Farmhouse features two efficient woodstoves, so the use of the electric baseboard system can be minimized.
The kitchens in all the buildings are equipped
with propane gas stoves. These energy-efficient appliances provide a
warm meal even in case of a power outage.
